Following on from our article last week on the Budget’s tax breaks for North Sea Oil production, there is even more good news for engineers looking to work there – a number of announcements have been made of additional projects and investments in the North Sea.

At the start of this month, Offshore magazine reported Statoil had awarded DOF Subsea Norway an eight-month project to include seabed mapping, pipeline inspection, lay support, and light construction services.

Then independent EnQuest were reported in Rigzone as announcing plans to increase its stake in the North Sea by bringing the Alma/Galia field on stream and making substantial investments in the Kraken development. EnQuest is also planning further assessment and appraisal drilling on a number of sites, aiming to deliver more than 15 wells in 2014.

Finally Oil Voice announced both the Swedish oil firm Lundin Petroleum and Norway’s Statoil have been successful in hitting oil while drilling test wells in the North Sea. The Johan Sverdrup is the largest oil field discovered in the North Sea for decades – it’s expected to contain up to 2.9 billion barrels of oil.

And good news for the industry is always good news for engineers as the demand will always outstrip supply. So if you’re considering making your next career move, contact us now.
